During the BOE’s last business meeting on October 27th, the Board discussed a number of district matters relating to the new District-Wide Safety and Emergency Management Plan, a recently taken Demographic Study and Education report of the Scarsdale School District, and the Capital Bonds Project.
The new District-Wide Safety and Emergency Management Plan was first introduced as a draft on March 24th earlier this year and was approved by the Board during this meeting. In the last few months, the District Safety Team had worked on updating the plan to further comply with New York State laws and to fix whatever issues they saw in the previous plan. Some notable additions to this new plan were the implementation of Cardiac Emergency Response Plans, new mandatory training requirements for faculty to better prepare them for emergency situations, panic alarm systems, increased local responder involvement in drills, and many other protocols to promote safety in our schools.
At the business meeting, this year’s Demographic Study was presented to the board. The report highlighted various statistics about our school district, including expected enrollment in future years, analysis of possible redistricting, etc. The report is helpful in understanding the enrollment trends for the schools and when considering what changes will be needed to be made in the Bond Project.
A reoccurring topic, the Capital Bond Project was spoken about at the meeting. The results from the Project’s feedback survey were shared as well as peoples’ thoughts from the Feedback Session on October 16th. The key points that the community had shared were concerns for Edgewood School and working to find equity amongst all the district’s schools. Plans were made regarding the next steps in working on the Bond Project, including reviewing the project with consideration of the feedback given from the community.
The Bond will likely stay an important topic in Board meetings for the next few months. If you have any comments or concerns, please email [email protected]. The full bond proposal is available in the October 6th meeting agenda here: https://go.boarddocs.com/ny/scarsdale/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#tab-meetings.
