The Spanish Club hosted a breakfast this past Thursday, November 3rd, from 7:30-8:00 right by the Brewster Road entrance. Club officers and members helped sell bagels, munchkins, donuts, and leftover Halloween candy. However, the highlight of the breakfast sale was the iced and hot coffee. SHS Spanish teacher and club advisor Ms. Almanzar supplied the coffee. Since her husband owns a coffee shop, the club was able to get the coffee conveniently and at an affordable price. Almanzar also handed out latte and coffee powder packets to teachers that came and supported the cause. The table successfully caught the attention of the incoming tired SHS students with bright strobe lights and loud Spanish music.

This breakfast takes place every year. This year, members of the Spanish Club raised around $150 from the breakfast. “The breakfast was extremely successful, not just in terms of raising money, but also awareness for the club,” noted club co-president Hannah Schmelkin 18. All the proceeds went to Centro Hispano, an organization in White Plains with the mission of improving lives of immigrant families, specifically hispanic families, living in Westchester. The club members put a lot of preparation into this event. “We planned this for a few weeks beforehand and had a few club meetings dedicated to brainstorming who would bring what, what prices to sell each item at, which time to sell, and the location to sell at,” added Schmelkin.
