With the school year starting and everyone settling back into their boring lives, the silver lining to this colossal cloud may have come from an unexpected source. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V album  dropped on September 27, and since then, it seems that my mood has been much improved. After years of legal disputes between Wayne and his record company, Cash Money Records, the long anticipated album finally dropped on the 27th. With the initial album release being indefinitely delayed in 2014, Weezy fans didn’t know when and if this masterpiece album would come out.

Luckily for the fans, and for all people with ears, the album dropped and it seems that colors shine a bit brighter now. The first track on the album is a voice recording of Wayne’s mother, Jacida Carter, expressing her love towards her son, and telling him that she and her friends are restless waiting for this album. Like his mom, millions of fans worldwide were equally as restless. The album takes the listener through a roller coaster of emotions. A main theme of the album is his success, and he makes sure that the listener understands that it did not come easily. Hard work and persistence were only a fraction of the obstacles he had to overcome in order to make it in the music industry. On the last track on the album, “Let It All Work,” Wayne explains his attempted suicide at age 12. He describes putting the gun to his chest and how no one was home to stop him. Wayne woke up with “blood all around me” and expresses his luck at surviving, saying that “God sold me another life and he made a profit.” This relates back to the theme of Lil Wayne’s success.

The album is truly a masterpiece and it seems that every track is better than the one before it. After the long wait for this album, Lil Wayne did not disappoint. Not only is the album enjoyable to listen to, it evokes extreme emotion and really helps the listener understand Wayne as a musician and as a person. The anticipation for Lil Wayne’s next album is already growing, but until then, Tha Carter V will be playing on repeat.
