What does a spirit-less school’s “spirit” look like? This past Thursday, January 12, was the Winter Pep Rally. As students gathered into the gyms, music blared and teams prepared dances, songs, and cheers. SHS is known for a lack of spirit, and some even say that the Pep Rally is “cringe-worthy” to watch for that reason. “As a whole it is clear that the entire school isn’t as spirited as we could be. Together we are maroon and white, and we need to start showing it,” exclaimed Isabelle Riback ’19. Although it was difficult for the student government to encourage every grade to cheer for the Raiders, the teachers’ basketball game was a highlight as everyone had the chance to watch their teachers play. Ellis Jones ’17 and Ryan Minster ’17 were the game’s sportscasters, and they had everyone’s attention. “By far, the most entertaining part of the pep rally was hearing all of the commentary during the teachers basketball game”, confessed Riback. After an intense game, the ending score was 21-21. Overall, the Pep Rally may not be everyone’s favorite event, but it was nice reminder that SHS has some spirit. Go Ders!
