Varun Bansal ’23 will be Scarsdale High School’s new President.

After a competitive SHS presidential election, Varun Bansal ’23 has emerged victorious, with David Diao ’23 winning second place (Vice-President). Bansal’s campaign strategy consisted of high-production campaign videos and Instagram infographics. In his new role, Bansal will have the opportunity to listen to SHS student voices and represent those voices in student government. Bansal is now releasing a public statement to the entire SHS community after his big win.

Bansal’s statement:

“Hey everyone! First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who voted, whether that was for me or not. It was great to see such a competitive and lively election. As your president, I’m excited to start fulfilling my campaign goals, whether that be food during Common Tutorial or keeping snow days, while also addressing any new issues the larger student body may have. I want to not only create school programs to combat climate change and give back to the community, but also build a sense of community and spirit within SHS. It amazes me how we, as students, have come together through the pandemic, and I can see our spirit clearly from the turnout at the Boy’s Basketball winning game against Mamo this week.

I’m planning to ensure that school-wide events, such as the carnival and charity dinner, can happen again for the first time in three years. As we transition back into a normal high school environment, I believe that the strength of our student body provides a great opportunity to not only restore what we had pre-pandemic, but also to improve upon it. Please always feel free to reach out to me if you have any ideas or suggestions. My primary goal in the next year is to create a transparent government that accomplishes what you all want.”
