Remembering Heroes

Jacob Faierman

A significant day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country: Memorial Day. This year, Scarsdale High School did their part to honor our nation’s heroes. On Monday, May 28, 2018, the Scarsdale High School Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band joined each other in delivering a wonderful performance during the Memorial Day Parade. Jason Noble, the conductor of bands at Scarsdale, was in charge of coordinating the event. The band worked both in class and before school to practice marching in the parade and playing at the same time. Though the process was challenging at times, the marvelous result was well worth the time. Some of the feature selections from the parade include America, This Is My Country, and God Bless America. After marching throughout the town, the band enjoyed listening to speeches from veterans explaining the significance of Memorial Day by discussing both nationwide implications and those related to Scarsdale specifically. Despite the fun march throughout the town, it is important to remember the serious nature of Memorial Day; a time to honor those who died in order to protect our freedoms.
