On Friday, November 30th, 2018, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was cut from the team only hours after a controversial video of him pushing and kicking a woman was released by TMZ. The incident happened back in February, however, the video was released only weeks ago. “I’m definitely not that type of person,” said Hunt in an interview with ESPN only days after being cut, “My mother raised me right. I was raised by my mom and my grandma and it was just us.” Hunt claims that the incident went against his character and that he was definitely “in the wrong.”

The incident at hand involved Hunt shouting back and forth with a women and eventually pushing and kicking her while she is on the ground. Hunt can be seen being held back by his friends while he tries to attack her. The fallout took place in the hallway of a hotel outside of Cleveland where Hunt been living just a few days. The victim of the violence was with Hunt on a party bus earlier in the night and eventually they went back to his apartment. Hunt was attempting to get the women to leave but they insisted on coming in and that’s when the situation turned hostile. “Honestly, it was just a long night and, to be exact, it don’t really matter what happened,” said Hunt regarding the specifics of the situation, “It’s tough because I feel like I let a lot of people down,” said Hunt, “I just want to apologize to everybody, the Chiefs organization, my family and close friends.” The Kansas City Chiefs cut him from the team after the video was released and claimed it was because he was not truthful about the situation, Hunt not having told them about the video at all.

As for what this means for Hunt and his future in the NFL, the outcome of the incident is still up in the air. The NFL states that the investigation is still ongoing and that no final conclusion has been met. Kareem Hunt has officially been cut from the team and is currently an unrestricted free agent. If a team does pick up Hunt for the 2019 season, he will be punished severely and a suspension deep into the season is expected. Hunt’s career is in serious risk of being over in his prime, but only time can tell what will happen.
