On October 5, 2017 the Scarsdale Girls Varsity A Volleyball team passionately defeated their rivals from Ursuline.

With a 7-3 record, the Raiders were confident going into their recent game against Ursuline. “Ursuline is one of our biggest rivals, so we were excited to play them,” shared setter and captain Annmarie Horn ’18. The Raiders started the first set strong with a 9-0 lead. Ball 10 was the beginning of a comeback for Ursuline. With the hard work of the players and the energy of the home crowd, the Raiders finished the first set with an astounding win of 25-15. While sharing her thoughts on the presence of the fans, Horn expressed, “It’s a great feeling to have people supporting you and your team.” As the sets went on, Ursuline kept pushing and noticeably tried harder with each point lost. Despite Ursuline’s strong desire to make a comeback, Scarsdale won the second set 25-19 and finished the game with a 25-19 win in the third set, sealing their victory. “I’ve never seen my team play so well before,” said, with confidence, Jordy Love ’20. At the end of the game the team celebrated Horn’s milestone of assisting 2,500 plays for the Varsity A Volleyball Raiders. “I’m so honored to have reached 2,500 assists for this team,” shared Horn. The season has just started for the team and together they can continue to have an amazing year. “The team dynamic is improving and constantly getting better,” added Love. The team will only improve as the season progresses.

A common goal among the players is to place in the top four in sectionals so that they can go on to play teams that will challenge them to do their absolute best. “We can’t let other teams get in our heads and we need to continue playing the game we know how to play,” concluded Love. The Raiders victory was exhilarating, well deserved, and unforgettable.
