The growing trend of inventive style elements is something I love to see in fashion. I’m excited to see the future Oscars looks as more celebrities choose extravagant and outgoing looks.

The 95th Oscars awards began with a twist, the usual Hollywood red carpet was replaced with a champagne-colored one. While not everyone was thrilled with the rug changeup, people were excited about the variety of clothing that walked down it. The outfits ranged from classic black and white looks to outgoing and colorful ones. Some common themes were sparkles, pastels, and statement jewelry. Here are my thoughts on the numerous styles of the night.

Paul Mesca was dressed in a Gucci suit. I loved the wide-legged trousers that screamed ‘the seventies’. The white suit jacket and red rose lapel greatly contrast his outfit. I adored the twist he put on the classic suit.

Mindy Kaling wore a white Vera Wang dress. It included a bodice with cutouts and beautiful off-the-shoulder bell sleeves. I loved the unique structure of the dress. Although white was a common sight on this carpet, Kaling’s style definitely stood out compared to the other wedding dress-esque gowns

Harvey Guillen donned a custom-made suit by Christian Siriano. Guillen noted that he was the first plus-sized male actor to be dressed by Siriano. Guillen’s look put a twist on the traditional suit; he wore a silver and black brocade suit with a blazer in a cascading train. My favorite part is the silver pattern that made it even more stunning!

Malala Yousafzai wore Ralph Lauren. The dress was covered in a multitude of silver sparkles and had a built-in head scarf. The outfit became even more gorgeous with gathering detail at the midriff. The outfit was fierce and classy at the same time. Her first Oscar look is definitely a memorable one.

Cara Delevingne wore Elie Saab. Her red dress was a beautifully structured off-the-shoulder piece with a high slit up the right leg. I especially loved the ruffle on her sleeve. Delevingne paired the red with diamond accessories. Between the color and jewelry, her outfit made for a bold look.

Harry Shum Jr. was styled by Adeam. He wore a white kimono-style jacket, a navy sash-like belt, and matching navy pants. The sash is in a similar style to a traditional Japanese obi. The outfit had contrast and a great shape. I loved how he mixed traditional Japanese clothing with the classic suit to create an iconic look.

Janelle Monáe wore a two-piece from Vera Wang. The top was a delicate, black corset-like number. The skirt was flowy colored with an orange that popped excellently against the carpet. In addition, Monáe wore a pretty choker with a large silver embellishment. The cornrows in her hair were woven with a silver thread making the outfit come together really nicely.

Halle Bailey wore Dolce & Gabbana. Bailey’s aqua princess dress was ethereal and elegant. The sheer tulle and structured corset were stunning. I loved the shape and pastel color of the dress. She accompanied the dress with a simple De Beers necklace.

The Oscars are known for their chic and effortless dress code. Over the years there have been choices challenging the simple, classy looks. The growing trend of inventive style elements is something I love to see in fashion. I’m excited to see the future Oscars looks as more celebrities choose extravagant and outgoing looks.
