Although it may be frigid right now, warm weather is just around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about summer! The annual SHS Summer Activities Fair will be held next Tuesday, January 14 from 7-9 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Hosted by the PTA, representatives from a wide variety of summer programs and camps will attend to discuss what they are offering and to answer questions. Parents are also invited to attend.
Melissa Eisenberg, a member of the Summer Activities Fair Committee, explained that it is crucial that students see first-hand what is available and can ask questions to representatives. Many students have not decided what they want to do for the upcoming summer, and this event can help by highlighting an abundance of options. Eisenberg emphasized how the freedom of summer allows for countless meaningful opportunities.
“Having 9-10 free weeks is a treat and a chance to really explore new things … it is a wonderful opportunity for students to be exposed to travel, concepts, careers, and more without the pressure of school,” Eisenberg stated.
There will be many unique and interesting programs, including a Jewish surfing camp based in Virginia. Students will be able to choose from all sorts of different programs, including sports, academic enrichment, work and internship opportunities, and more.
The event will feature 55 vendors, and the Committee expects to bring in a record turnout as well. The fair will be free for all attendees, and it is recommended that students go with a parent. If all of this didn’t already convince you, there will be candy at the fair! If you don’t yet have summer plans, or just want to look at some options, feel free to stop by and check it out!
