Midnight Run Slows to a Walk

With a whopping ninety active members, Midnight Run is a well-established club at SHS.  Each month, club members travel to the city and deliver food, clothing, and hygienic products to the homeless.  The runs are a fulfilling and personal experience for everyone involved.  “I had participated in Midnight Run when I was a high school student and very much enjoyed the experience.  The combination of actually meeting the folks you’re helping, being in NYC on a Saturday night, and doing all this with a bunch of my friends made for a wonderful time,” shared SHS Physics Teacher and Midnight Run Advisor Vincent Licciardello.

On Saturday, November 10th, the club held their annual Midnight Walk at the SHS track.  Every year, this walk-a-thon raises approximately $1000-2000.  The profits allow the club to purchase the supplies they need for the runs.  “Money donated at the walk, whether through sponsorship forms or the purchasing of baked goods, typically is able to fund our next run or couple of runs entirely.  Also, many students join Midnight Run after attending the walk, so member recruitment is also an important product of the Midnight Walk,” said co-president Felicia Tuchman ’18.  Therefore, the Walk greatly helps to boost the quality of the club and the smoothness of its operations.

This year, the Walk’s participants had to face below-freezing weather.  “Next year, we hope to make the walk earlier in the year so it is not as cold!” added co-president Hannah Glickenhaus ’18.
