part of this rare, highly regarded society is one of the biggest unofficial honors any artist can be awarded. Having an EGOT means that one person has received an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Miranda has gotten three of the four so far, and may soon receive the Oscar he needs in order to have a completed collection. In 2014, he obtained the Emmy for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for the creative, unique writing style he used in creating the lyrics for Bigger! from the 67th Tony Awards. Also, Miranda received the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album in both 2009 and 2016 for writing the scores of Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton, respectively. His talent also has been recognized in the Tony Awards as he has won Best Original Score for both shows and Best Book of a Musical for his theater adaptation of Hamilton by Rob Chernow.

At just 37 years old, he already has accomplished more than most artists involved in theater achieve in a lifetime. Miranda’s talent has led his various works to become worldwide sensations, which many fans pay hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to experience. “Lin-Manuel
Miranda is a genius, and every single production he has gets better than the next,” exclaimed Lindsay Gelles ’19. Gelles has seen In the Heights, Bring It On: The Musical, and Hamilton. Gelles and many other fans support his contribution to Moana‘s How Far I’ll Go, which has been reviewed as clever and catchy by Miranda’s fanbase. “I think it’s incredible that so quickly after creating Hamilton, which has been an incredibly successful show, [Miranda] was able to contribute to Moana, the new Disney film. I just think that’s very awesome,” added Gelles.

Furthermore, Miranda has a style that is different from other artists, especially those on

Broadway. Hamilton is the first Broadway hit to incorporate rap music, in addition to providing the audience with a deeper understanding of America’s history solely through its music. Through Miranda’s score, fans have gained a newfound love and a greater appreciation for the formation of our country. Due to his remarkable talent and impressive accomplishments, Lin-Manuel Miranda undoubtedly deserves to achieve an EGOT. His extensive repertoire proves him beyond qualified, and it would be phenomenal if he were able to reach such an outstanding milestone.
