Junior Class Government Hosting School Walkathon
November 6, 2020
Due to the COVID-19 risks and restrictions, there is not as much opportunity for school events compared to prior years. It is very difficult to plan grade or school-wide events with the necessary distancing. However, despite these challenges, the junior class government has been able to plan an activity that is both safe and fun.
They will be hosting a walkathon on Sunday, November 8 at the track to raise funds for the organization In the Bag, which provides backpacks filled with school supplies, masks, and hand sanitizer for students in need. There will be a ten-dollar entry fee, but other donations are appreciated as well.
In the end, whoever completes the most amount of laps will get to decide which other COVID-19 related charity to donate the last 15% of the money to.
The event is open to all high school students, as it will be split by cohort to minimize potential spread of the virus. Students in cohort A can come between 12:30 P.M. and 2:30 P.M. Students in cohort B can come from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
After walking the track, participants will enjoy free hot chocolate and Baked in Color cookies. Juniors can also pick up a class of 2022 T-shirt, as well. “There will be music playing and it will be a lot of fun!” said Amelia Lane ’22, one of the organizers of the event. “Overall it is just an amazing way to bring our high school community together for a cause that we can all relate to”, she added.
