On March 9th, members of the Habitat for Humanity club and 12th-grade students from the public policy course Peacing It Together visited Mount Vernon’s CSA Community Service Soup Kitchen. Additionally, they packed sandwich bags at Scarsdale High School and added various fruits and snacks to the sandwich bags for a great meal. Finally, they cooked, packed up, and served dinner for over 50 guests in the local community and donated scarves and gloves to needy families.

“Each person was so kind and so thankful for our generosity, both with the meals and the winter items. It made me want to go back immediately!” Christina Semple ’24, who participated in the soup kitchen and sandwich-making events, said.

“Being able to help those who came to the soup kitchen was very heartwarming, and I could tell how appreciative and genuine the people who came to receive the food were. Habitat is a great way to give back, and I encourage everyone to join it,” Myla Wollman ’24 noted, another member who has been volunteering for three years.

Habitat for Humanity hopes to encourage high school students to join in on the service they are providing for the community. Not only do students pack meals for families, but they also organize bake sales and help construct homes for people in need.
