On September 2, Scarsdale started their season off triumphantly when they defeated Suffern High School after four unlucky years of losses. “It was a major statement for the program, and an indication for how far we’ve come,” said head coach of the SHS volleyball team, Ann Marie Nee. On September 19, the winning streak continued when Scarsdale hosted their annual Varsity Tournament for Autism Speaks, a foundation that raises money for people living with Autism. Facing eighteen other teams, the Raiders once again played hard and took home the gold. Despite their amazing efforts up until that point, the Raiders did eventually lose to their long time rivals, the Ursuline Koalas, on October 5. While the loss was devastating, the Raider’s resilience shined through as they rebounded the next day and crushed Mamaroneck for the second time this season. “Although we lost our undefeated title from the Ursuline game, we learned from our mistakes. The following day, we truly redeemed ourselves. This has impacted our team for the better by preparing us more for our future games.” exclaimed Rena Li ’19. The Raiders had an overall successful season despite this loss, ending the season as regional finalists- one game away from states.
