Popular late-night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 90th annual Oscars in the grand Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The star-studded event on March 4 honored the most notable actors, movies and overall productions of the year with a majestic, crystallized set that rivaled the castles of Disney princesses. Without the drama of last year’s disastrous finale, the Moonlight–La La Land debacle that will go down in history, this year’s show was chock full of beautiful performances, outfits that brought on a crowd of oohs and aahs, laughter, and of course, awards.

This year’s red carpet was host to an abundance of stunning dresses, pant suits and tuxedos alike. Margot Robbie, who earned her first Oscar nomination this year as Best Actress for her masterful role in I, Tonya, shone in an elegant, white dress decorated with a beautiful pearl design, while fellow Best Actress nominee Meryl Streep donned an all-red ensemble. Another eye-catcher on the carpet was actress Rita Moreno, who starred in the 1961 production of West Side Story, which she won an Oscar for. All eyes were upon Moreno as she graced the red carpet in the exact same dress she had worn to the 1962 Oscars over 60 years ago.

One of the highlights of the night occurred when host Jimmy Kimmel and a group of Hollywood A-listers, ranging from Gal Gadot and Lupita Nyong’o to Ansel Elgort and Lin Manuel Miranda, walked over to the TCL Chinese Theatre where random, unsuspecting people were attending an early viewing of the upcoming movie A Wrinkle In Time. To thank moviegoers for their part in the success of the film industry, Kimmel and the celebrities crashed the movie and handed out snacks to the ecstatic moviegoers, earning them thunderous cheers and priceless stares of awe.

This year’s award for Best Picture went to The Shape of Water, directed by Guillermo del Toro, while the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress went to Gary Oldman, for his role in The Darkest Hour, and Frances McDormand, for her part in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, respectively. Dunkirk was another big winner, taking home the second most Oscars of the night, after The Shape of Water, and Jordan Peele won Best Original Screenplay for his movie Get Out, making him the first black screenwriter to achieve this feat.

Overall, the 2018 Oscars were a night to remember, from the awards, to the fashion to Jimmy Kimmel and friends’ surprise for moviegoers. Lastly and arguably most importantly, this year’s Oscars were able to award the Best Picture Oscar to the correct film.
