On Friday, October 6, the Scarsdale Raiders Girl’s Varsity Field Hockey Team took on the Rye Garnets for their annual pink game. In addition to winning, the goal of the pink game is to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Raffle tickets were available for purchase from any team member to win a variety of prizes, including a Langes gift card or a free Soul Cycle class.

After losing to the Garnets during their preseason and tying them in a previous game during the season, the Raiders were determined to secure a win. Going into it, the team knew it was going to be a tough game. “Our goalie, Lila, has a concussion, so we really needed to keep the ball out of our defensive end,” stated left defender, Sam Felder ’19. Although it was hot, Scarsdale took the field with a lot of energy. The game remained close for most of the first half, until there were about ten minutes left and Liz Scarcella ’20 was able to score a goal for the Raiders.

“It was really important for us to win this game because we had a few rough games and we needed to get out momentum going,” said sweeper Paige Panessa ’18.The rest of the game, the two teams remained very close. Both teams had opportunities to score and fought until the very end of the game, but ultimately, the score remained 1-0 and the Raiders were able to grasp the victory.
