Rent-A-Senior Day is a day full of “Property of” signs, multiple outings to Langes, and embarrassing outfits. The fundraiser is conducted by the senior class government to raise money for the senior prom. Students get to rent their senior friends for a day and the seniors must obey their “owner’s” demands. Rent-A-Senior Day is something the seniors look forward to on their way to the end of their high school career before they leave for senior options.
Katie Hirsch ’17 rented Amanda Berk ’16 for the day and made her wear a zany outfit with a “Property of Katie Hirsch” sign around her neck. “I made her buy me a lot of food and drive me everywhere all day!” exclaimed Hirsch.. Although it may seem as though this would seem to be unpleasant for Berk, she could not have been happier to participate. “Rent a senior day was so fun, and I’m so happy I could finally be part of this senior tradition! It’s a great way to end the year on a silly note while also getting to say goodbye to our fave underclassmen who paid to rent us,” explained Berk. A few bold Freshman rented seniors as well. “I made [the Senior] drive me to and from Lange’s many times and wear a tutu and tiara,” shared Lindsay Gelles ’19 who rented Alyssa Josselsohn ’16. Along with the many girls who participate in the exciting day, the males of SHS also partake in the fun. “They made me wear a baseball uniform to school all day,” said Elliot Graham ’16 who was rented by Andrew Halperin ’17. Seniors were more than happy to pose for pictures, obey the rules of their owner, and overall enjoyed one of their final days at SHS.
