Will It Make You Smile or Feel Vile?

Smile 2, a psychological thriller, is filled with various plot twists and moments that will make you question whether you know what is real or not. We’re here to break it down for you. (Spoiler Alert!)
Will It Make You Smile or Feel Vile?

Smile 2 is not your classic horror movie. It delves into the psychological aspects of fear and makes you question what is real and what is not. The film opens with a gripping action sequence—a police officer bolts out of his car with a gun, opens the door of a house, and finds two criminals ready to fight him. Is there even a better way to start off an action-packed movie? From the second the movie started, we were already on the edge of our seats. Unfortunately, we should have looked at the reviews.

The movie was absolutely petrifying. After finding the crooks, the police officer kills them. However, he is not alone in the house, as there is a drug dealer standing right in front of him. The police officer proceeds to sprint right out of the house. Just as he gets on the road, a large SUV suddenly speeds down the road, and he is instantly killed. This fast-paced beginning sets the tone for the rest of the movie, where plot twists left and right will make your head spin.

Smile 2 will leave you jumpy for weeks. You’ll never want to stay in a room by yourself. Personally, after watching this movie, we were scared stiff and startled at every shadow. Smile 2 is perfect for fans of psychological mysteries, thrill seekers, convoluted plot twists, and dramatic endings. One cinematic aspect of the movie that made it so horrifying was the music. Hair-raising soundtracks played at just the right volume at just the right times. If you were there, you would definitely feel the chills at these moments.

Hallucinations will eventually seem like reality to a character in the movie. At the start, when Lewis invited Skye into his apartment, nothing seemed unusual. Once Lewis started to consume more drugs, however, he eventually ended up killing himself. Similarly, the illusions that Skye saw became more unrealistic and fantastic throughout the movie as she continued her drug use. Our theory for their hallucinations is that they couldn’t get off drugs and stop using. It is assumed that Lewis was highly addicted since he was a drug dealer. On the other hand, Skye took even more drugs in an attempt to stop her wild imagination and control her ever-slipping reality.

No movie is absolutely perfect. There were still improvements that could have been made in some scenes to clarify what was going on. This movie begins exactly where the previous Smile movie ended, so it may be confusing for those who didn’t watch the previous movie to follow along. Additionally, the question of what is real and what is not follows you throughout the entire movie, intensifying as the movie progresses because of unexpected plot twists. This might be confusing, or make it hard to understand the nuances of the movie. It is especially hard for those who close their eyes during some of the scenes because the movie is very fast-paced. Overall, Smile 2 is a uniquely horrifying psychological thriller, though not without flaws, and is a must-watch for all the horror movie connoisseurs out there.
