On Friday, March 7th, the SHS Dance Team delivered a thrilling performance, “Moonlit Echoes,” showcasing nine of their latest routines. The performance encompassed a range of styles from different time periods and cultures.
The team performed a selection of pieces from Alvin Ailey’s ballet “Revelations,” which is celebrated for its depiction of African-American heritage through gospel. The dancers learned the piece with the help of a guest artist, Damazi Williams. The collaborative piece “I’ve been Buked” was created from improvisational elements contributed by every team member. The program also included two K-pop pieces with original choreography taught by the team’s captains, Victoria Roberts ’26 and Ana Enge ’25. The team also performed to “PINGA” with a dance taught by guest artists Bina Bora and Francis Sampson. “Mayhem,” a modern contemporary piece inspired by Isadora Duncan, was co-choreographed by SHS physical education coach and director of the dance team Maggie Bryant and SHS psychologist Carolyn Lanfredi. At the end, there was a special segment, a “Taste of Motown,” featuring faculty members, including SHS math teachers Serge Azor, Joy Ying, and Lauren Barton, as well as SHS Spanish teacher Patricia Almanzar.
Bryant expressed her pride for the group, saying, “I’m so incredibly proud of how far these students have come in just six months. They have truly achieved remarkable things, and I have no doubt that they will continue to.”
