If you are new to Scarsdale High School, you might feel a little lost because of some confusing words that are thrown around on a regular basis. To help you out, here is a list of commonly used words, as they are defined by SHS students.

 

ATUSH noun

PEMDAS is the acronym that helps you remember order of operations, and ATUSH is the acronym that helps you remember the class you need to take to get any damn respect in this town.

 

Ironic adjective

The best word to use to sound smart because nobody really knows what it means. It’s like, uhh. I can’t really explain it. It’s like when your mom makes you a PB&J sandwich, but you are allergic to peanut butter. Yeah, that sounds right.

 

Legacy noun

Your least favorite Jason Bourne movie and also the thing that might get you into college.

 

Literally adverb

Utility word. Can be used in literally any situation.

(Often said before the words “can’t even right now”)

 

Teacher Shopping verb

A phenomenon that teachers say they hate but are secretly a little flattered by when they are on the right side of it.

 

Naviance  proper noun

The website that can (and does) quantify your existence.
