Review: Crumbl Cookies

Scrolling through my for you page on TikTok, all I see are these beautifully creative, mouth-watering cookies. As I saw this trend rapidly spread, I knew I had to catch on. 

It all started when Sawyer Hemsley and Jason McGowan, two cousins, teamed together to try to find the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. They grew from a small Crumbl Cookies store in Logan, UT, and have now expanded to over 175 locations in 31 states, nationwide. Every week, the menu rotates and drops on Sunday night with four new cookies inspired by desserts of all kinds. The weekly menu has contained creative cookies such as a waffle, blueberry crumb cake, chocolate featuring Oreo, sugar featuring circus animal, red velvet, Twix, PB&J, and many more. 

Unfortunately, there are no Crumbl Cookie stores in New York, so I was unable to try the weekly four new flavors, but they do offer shipping. I ordered the milk chocolate chip, s’mores, Butterfinger, peanut butter chocolate chip, hazelnut churro, and the circus animal cookie. 

The cookies were contained in their signature packaging: a pink box filled with styrofoam and six plastic-wrapped cookies. Many of the cookies were broken, but none of them were too damaged. 

The hazelnut churro was thin and covered in cinnamon sugar. I put it into the microwave for 20 seconds to get it slightly warm. As I cut into it, I was expecting Nutella to ooze out but was surprised to see only a very thin layer of it that remained inside the cookie. I couldn’t taste the Nutella at all, but the cinnamon sugar flavoring was amazing. I rate this cookie a five out of ten because the cinnamon sugar overpowered the Nutella, making it seem more like a plain churro cookie. 

The circus animal cookie was thick and slightly broken as I unwrapped it. The sprinkles in the cookie, on the frosting, and on the animal cracker were fun and surprisingly did not fall off. Although the frosting tasted amazing, and the Mother’s circus animal cookie covered in chocolate on top was a cute idea, the flavor of the cookie was bland and dry. I rate this flavor a three out of ten because the cookie tasted plain, but the add-ons were fun and tasted delicious.  

The chocolate chip was thick, and the coloring was a perfect light tan. The texture was hard on the outside and soft on the inside. The generous amount of chocolate chips given in the cookie melted as I heated it up in the microwave for 20 seconds. The oozing milk chocolate with a warm, soft cookie paired amazingly together and tasted just like Toll House cookies. This was definitely one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. I would rate it a nine and a half out of ten. 

The s’mores cookie had a medium thickness with marshmallow fluff on top. The marshmallow fluff got on the plastic wrapper and smudged off a lot. It was clearly not a real marshmallow, which was utterly disappointing. There was also no graham cracker, and it was simply a plain chocolate chip cookie. I rate this cookie a six out of ten, as it was still good but lacked creativity and shouldn’t have the “s’mores” title. 

The peanut butter chocolate chip was very thick with a darker coloring. It had a strong peanut butter smell and taste. Just like the chocolate chip cookie, the inside was soft while the outside was hard. I rate this cookie a seven out of ten because it definitely stuck to its name and tasted great. 

The Butterfinger cookie was thick and creative with a chocolate drizzle and crushed Butterfingers on top. This cookie also had a strong peanut butter scent and was hard on the outside but soft on the inside. This cookie was on point, tasting exactly like a Butterfinger. I give it a rating of six out of ten. 

Overall, I had high expectations that were unfortunately not met. The ideas were cute, but I think the poor shipping took a toll on the taste of the cookies. The fresh weekly cookies seem to taste and look better as I’ve seen through TikTok. However, I’m still glad I got to try the viral Crumbl Cookies!
