A lot was discussed at the school and class government house meeting on December 14, 2023. Here’s a summary of what went on:
Principal Kenneth Bonamo said that he was looking forward to the upcoming choir performance, he hopes that no homework is given over break for the day we return to school, and that the meeting with the Board of Education and a select group of SHS students was very productive.
Assistant Principal Andrea O’Gorman announced that Ms. Luiso has been promoted to an official role in the district office, and there is no replacement for her yet.
The school government has been busy planning the spirit week and the pep rally, and approving many club applications. A possible pep rally rehearsal was discussed during talks about further improving the pep rally.
The junior class government, along with the Spanish Club, is in the midst of a Toy Drive for White Plains Hospital that ends on December 21.
Food services was a major part conversation, as new options such as froyo, grandma’s cookies, tater tots, and coffee have recently been implemented into the school menu. An acai smoothie bar will be opening up soon in the cafeteria. Food choices running out early in the day at the Learning Commons was an issue brought up.
The meeting wrapped with a discussion about mental health and wellbeing. Seniors brought up that it would be helpful if teachers would be a bit more receptive to their busy schedules with college applications and stress with their decisions coming out. Teachers have been wearing “Be Kind” shirts on Fridays as well.
