BOO! “IT Chapter Two” Review

September 15, 2019

Floating into theaters last Friday, Pennywise the Clown (Bill Skarsgård) is back in the nightmare-inducing sequel, “IT Chapter Two.”

In the first movie, set 27 years prior to the sequel, the seven misfits of the Loser’s Club defeated Pennywise in the dreary sewers of Derry, promising to meet up again if he ever comes back. After growing up and distancing themselves from their horrific childhoods, the Losers are forced to reunite and live up to their promises when he returns.

Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa), the only member who chooses to stay in his hometown, has spent years in Derry’s library researching what happened that fateful summer so long ago. When people begin to disappear again, Mike convinces his reluctant friends to perform a Native American ritual that forces each Loser to delve into his or her past and recover an artifact.

 *SPOILERS AHEAD*

After the ritual goes wrong, the group fights the clown together, reducing his shapeshifting powers until he shrinks down to a size that they can defeat.

Lasting nearly three hours, the film is injected with a healthy dosage of jump scares and comic relief, causing the audience to laugh and shiver simultaneously. However, the long runtime wears out each viewer’s patience and leaves the audience exhausted after the film is finally terminated.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, “IT Chapter Two” has set the box office record for the second-biggest horror movie opening ever, being one-upped only by its predecessor, “IT Chapter One.” Aside from scaring the pants off of people, the film serves as a reminder to society about the atrocity that is human cruelty. If you’re a horror movie person, float down to theaters today because as Pennywise says, “We all float down here.”
