A MUNumental Trip

SHS’s Model UN club has yet again attended a conference, ILMUNC 2020 (Ivy League Model United Nations Conference) hosted by Marriott Philadelphia Downtown Hotel. There are, however, a few distinguishing factors that set this conference apart from most. 

ILMUNC, held from January 30 to February 2, was meant solely for returning members of the MUN club, which means that it consisted of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. “It was a really dynamic group of kids. At every Model UN conference, our community only grows stronger because people of all grades and all ages are willing to hang out with each other and make memories, regardless of how old you are or what your social circle is,” explained MUN officer Rishabh Gharekhan ’20. 

During their free time, the delegates had time to socialize in each others’ rooms, take a stroll, eat out at nice restaurants, and play the occasional game of Super Smash Bros. This gave everyone a nice chance to bond over common interests and to form allies to slam Nintendo switches down in victory with. 

“It was a mix of fun and good debate, and everyone was extremely engaged all throughout the weekend,” commented MUN officer Jennifer Farfel ’20. 

This conference was a good opportunity for the older students of SHS to enjoy their time together, and for the seniors, the beginning of the end. But for now, there are still MUN conferences ahead of the MUN club, and they hope that each will be as exciting as ILMUNC 2020 was.
