On February 6th, the Scarsdale girls’ head field hockey coach, Sharon Rosenthal, resigned. She told her team that she was already planning on resigning within the next two years to spend more time with her young daughter, but the decision was catalyzed by the firing of the assistant and JV field hockey coaches, Genette and Gail Zonghetti.

During her 18 years as head coach, Rosenthal helped develop the program and lead the team to state finals in 2016. “In light of the loss of our assistant coach, the resignation of Coach R was another blow to our team and field hockey program… She placed a strong emphasis on team dynamic and a love for the sport… She will be missed as a coach and a role model,” said one player. Despite the radical changes being made in the program, the players are still hopeful for their 2018 season. “We are such a close team, so no matter what, our team will get through this and continue to be a strong team. I think that losing two coaches will motivate us to be an even better team than we have been in the past… I think that our team is ready for a new experience,” said Julia Jamesley ’19.
