Football Season 2015

Football+Season+2015

On September 5, the 2015 varsity football season for Scarsdale High School began with a bang. Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls brought their all in Scarsdale’s first home game, but the team managed to pull off a 35-14 win against the Ketcham Indians and inspire confidence for the rest of the season, a difficult feat considering the team was ranked sixth among 21 high school football teams in the league. “We had to play all the top teams and we made it really far to the semifinals and won two playoff games, which has never been done before in school history,” noted team co-captain Michael Rolfe ’16 proudly. Unfortunately, in the second game of the season, the team lost to Arlington by seven points, and entered their next game against White Plains wary of a potential loss. For the first half the team was down 0-21 and it seemed like all was lost. However, the team managed to rally in the second half and finished the game with a 36-26 win. “We really showed how much heart we had,” commented Rolfe. As the football season progressed, the team experienced wins and losses in equal measure until the time came to determine whether or not the squad would make it to the playoffs, and in a remarkable game on October 10, they defeated North Rockland 28-0. Against all odds, the team won not one, but two playoff games, and played with heart on October 24 in a home game against Mahopac. Unexpectedly, their opponent connected on a 65-yard passing touchdown early in the game. “I was shocked. We were so hyped up for the game, so to start like that was tough but sometimes stuff like that happens, and you have to bounce back,” said co-captain Sam Squadron ’16. Indeed, the team once again proved their strength and came back fighting, scoring in the last 15 seconds and finishing with a 33-28 win. Although they lost their semifinal game against New Rochelle on October 31, this year proved to be a memorable one for the entire Scarsdale squad. “We had a tough game at the semifinals but overall I thought we had a very successful season,” stated Rolfe.
