After five exciting and controversial years on the New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. has parted ways with the organization, the city, and the passionate fans. Odell was traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 1st and 3rd round draft pick, along with 23-year-old safety Jabrill Peppers.

From a football perspective, the trade wasn’t a black or white win for either team. Considering Odell’s injury-prone nature and somewhat dramatic attitude, this might have been the best time to trade him, while he’s still on top. However, from a Giants fan’s perspective, this trade was much more than a swap of picks and players.

Odell brought energy and charisma to a city that lacked excitement in the sports world. Playing in arguably the greatest city on Earth tends to have its ups and downs, but Odell loved the limelight. Everyone from grandmothers to babies to dogs were wearing “BECKHAM JR.” on the back of their jerseys, and soon enough Odell had become one of the most famous sports icons in the world. From his electric rookie season which won him Rookie Of The Year honors in 2014, to his infamous catch against the Dallas Cowboys which had every kid in New York and beyond yelling “Odell!” whenever they caught a ball, Odell had quickly become a star.

Unfortunately, many believe that his off-field antics and childish behavior were not worth the talent on the field, and thus grew a split between Odell’s lovers and haters. As Odell’s time with the Giants comes to an end, New York will forever be thankful for his passion, work ethic, and fighting New York spirit.
