This season, the boys and girls SHS golf teams both managed to clutch the state championship win for the Raiders. Through hard work and perseverance, both teams beat local school teams in the Section One tournament and scored the overall high score during the state championship. Both teams were undefeated in their season, the girls at 15-0 and the boys at 19-0.

Four Raiders from the boys team made it to states, leading the team to win its first state tournament in seven years. The boys played round one of Sectionals at Waccabuc Country Club and round two at Fenway Country Club. For states, they played at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University. Andy Fan ’19, Jay Allen ’20, Charlie Berridge ’21, and Steven Lee ’21 attended and all individually placed in the top 30. Fan, shooting a total of 152, and Allen, also shooting a total of 152, both placed 10th. Berridge, with a total of 155, placed 16th and Lee, with a total of 158, placed 27th. “It was special to have three other Scarsdale kids going to states with me, and since it was my last time there, it was extra special to also be amongst a great group of players. It was a great experience,” commented Fan.

The Scarsdale girls team also acquired the state title after successfully winning Sectionals and attending the state championship representing Section One. This year was the first time that the girls team won both the Section One team title and the states team title. Last year, at Sectionals, they had a devastating loss to Carmel, who also went on to win states. This year, the girls played round one of Sectionals at Centennial Golf Club and round two at Whippoorwill Country Club. For states, they played at Deerfield Golf and Country Club. Kaitlyn Lee ’19, a two-time sectionals champion, was vital to Scarsdale’s win. She finished 5th, shooting 78 on both days and scoring a total of 156. The other 4 Raiders also performed well. Jacqueline Lu ’22 shot a total of 170, placing 17th, and Rebecca Maude ’20 shot a total of 184, placing at 39th. Madhavi Shashank ’19 placed 45th, shooting 188. Skye Braun ’22 shot a score of 99 the first day and did not play the second day. “It was a great experience. I’m proud of myself and my teammates for pulling through both days,” commented Maude, who proudly represented the juniors of the team at states.
